Most CGHS beneficiaries don't know this: Diagnostic tests at CGHS-empanelled hospitals and labs ARE covered — with a prescription from your Wellness Centre CMO. You do NOT need a referral letter for tests. A simple prescription for the test is sufficient.

All prices shown are standard private rates at Gini. CGHS cashless rates may differ. For cashless processing bring your Wellness Centre prescription and CGHS card. Prices effective April 2026.
Most CGHS beneficiaries are 55–75 years old — precisely the age when cardiac risk rises sharply and preventive screening pays the highest dividend.
Higher cardiac event risk in men aged 55–75 vs. age 40
Post-menopausal women reach near-equal cardiac risk to men
Higher cardiac risk for diabetics — silent ischaemia is common
Higher cardiac event risk in hypertensives without regular screening
Annual cardiac screening prevents emergency admissions that cost 10–50× more.
"Preventive investment is the cheapest healthcare." — A full annual cardiac screen (ECG + Echo + Lipid + hsCRP) costs approximately ₹3,200 at Gini. One emergency ICU admission for heart attack costs ₹80,000–3,00,000. Both are covered under CGHS — but the first prevents the second.
The minimum recommended annual cardiac screen is:
Gini's team reviews results immediately. Abnormal findings trigger a defined care pathway — you are never left with a report and no guidance.
Dr. Rahul Katyal (ICU Director) reviews the echo immediately. Cardiology referral is coordinated to a CGHS-empanelled cardiac specialist in Chandigarh. If the ejection fraction is critically low (<35%), admission for stabilisation is arranged at Gini while referral paperwork is processed.
Cardiology referral is arranged on priority. Stress nuclear perfusion imaging or CT coronary angiography may be ordered to map the ischaemic territory. Gini assists with the CGHS referral process to ensure the next investigation is also cashless.
This is treated as a cardiac emergency. The patient is moved directly to Gini's ICU or CCU pathway. Dr. Rahul Katyal and the on-call team are activated immediately. Gini's 30-bed ICU is fully equipped for cardiac monitoring, with direct coordination to cardiac catheterisation centres in Chandigarh for emergency angioplasty if required.
Major cardiac procedures — coronary angioplasty (PTCA), bypass surgery (CABG), valve replacement, and device implantation — require a dedicated cardiothoracic surgery centre. Gini Advanced Care Hospital does not perform cardiac surgeries, but provides the complete diagnostic workup and coordinates referral.
Call our CGHS desk to begin your cardiac diagnostic workup: 0172-4120100. We will co-ordinate the entire pathway including referral documentation.
Tell the CMO: "I am over 55 with diabetes / hypertension and want annual cardiac screening." Bring any previous cardiac reports, blood pressure readings, and your list of current medications. The CMO will assess your risk factors and prescribe appropriate tests.
For high-risk patients (diabetics over 55 with hypertension), the CMO commonly prescribes ECG, 2D Echo, TMT, and lipid profile together in one prescription. You can ask for all four in one visit. The prescription (not a full referral letter) is sufficient for CGHS cashless processing at Gini.
