Planned CGHS Admission at Gini — 6 Steps

1

Get a Diagnosis and Referral

Visit your designated CGHS Wellness Centre. Bring all existing medical reports, previous prescriptions, and investigation results. The CMO (Chief Medical Officer) will examine you and issue a referral letter specifying: diagnosis or suspected condition, recommended hospital, recommended specialist, and whether admission is required. Tip: Call Gini's CGHS desk on 0172 4120100 before visiting — we can advise on exactly what reports to bring to facilitate the referral. Wellness Centre locations →

2

Call Gini's CGHS Desk

Call 0172 4120100 with your referral details, your condition, and your preferred admission date. Our CGHS team will confirm coverage for your procedure, assign the appropriate specialist (Dr. Bhansali, Dr. Harjoban Singh, Dr. Nitin Aggarwal, or Dr. Rahul Katyal), and confirm an admission or consultation slot. CGHS beneficiaries from Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, Ambala, Shimla, and Jammu are welcome — your zone referral is valid at Gini.

3

Pre-Authorisation (for Surgeries and Major Procedures)

For procedures like knee replacement, hip replacement, any planned surgery, or high-cost diagnostic procedures — pre-authorisation from the Additional Director CGHS is required. Gini's CGHS team prepares the complete pre-auth file on your behalf:

  • Clinical justification letter from the treating specialist
  • Surgeon's assessment and procedure recommendation
  • Implant or procedure quote at CGHS package rates
  • All patient CGHS documents (card, referral, ID)

Submitted to: O/o Additional Director CGHS, Kendriya Sadan, Sector 9-A, Chandigarh · Ph: 0172-2740716. Typical turnaround: 7–10 working days for a complete, correctly filed application.

4

Admission Day — What to Bring

Arrive at Gini Hospital with:

  • CGHS card — original + 2 photocopies
  • Pre-authorisation approval letter (for planned procedures)
  • Referral letter from Wellness Centre — original + 2 copies
  • Aadhaar card — original + 1 photocopy
  • Latest PPO (Pension Payment Order) or pay slip — for ward entitlement

Our CGHS desk registers you, determines your ward entitlement, and initiates cashless billing directly with CGHS from the first day.

5

During Admission

Treatment is cashless for all covered procedures, medicines, and tests during the admission period. Any non-covered items — such as premium implants or non-formulary medicines — are discussed with you transparently and in writing before being administered. Daily updates are given to the patient and family. For diabetic patients admitted under Dr. Bhansali, blood sugar monitoring and insulin adjustments are managed by the endocrinology team round the clock.

6

Discharge — Fully Cashless

On discharge, Gini's billing team prepares the complete discharge summary, all bills, and CGHS claim documentation in CGHS-compliant format. The cashless claim is submitted directly to CGHS by Gini. You do not pay and claim back — it is cashless from day one of admission to discharge. Any approved follow-up prescriptions and CGHS reimbursement documents are provided to you at discharge.

📋 For Planned Admission

🚨 For Emergency Admission

Emergency rule: No CGHS beneficiary can be denied emergency treatment at an empanelled hospital for lack of documents. Treatment first, paperwork after.

CGHS Admission — Common Questions

For planned admission, a referral from your CGHS Wellness Centre is required. For emergency admission — chest pain, accident, stroke, DKA, or any life-threatening condition — you can be admitted directly without any referral. The intimation to CGHS is sent within 24 hours of admission, which Gini handles on your behalf.
Emergency treatment will not be withheld for lack of a CGHS card. Treatment begins immediately. Ask a family member to bring the card as soon as possible. If the card is unavailable, Gini's CGHS desk will guide you on the documentation process after stabilisation.
Pre-authorisation for planned knee replacement typically takes 7–14 working days once the complete file is submitted to the Additional Director CGHS. Gini's CGHS desk prepares the full pre-auth file — clinical justification, surgeon's assessment, CGHS-rate implant quote, and all patient documents. An incomplete file is the most common cause of delay; Gini ensures first-time accuracy. CGHS knee replacement details →
Yes. Ward entitlement is determined by your pay or pension level. If you are entitled to a semi-private or private ward, you are not required to accept a general ward bed. Bring your latest PPO or pay slip to confirm entitlement. Gini has general, semi-private, and private ward options.
The CGHS package rate covers most standard treatments. If a premium implant or non-formulary medicine is chosen, there may be a differential charge. Gini discusses and documents all such cases transparently in writing before proceeding. Emergency care and ICU are covered at CGHS rates.
Yes. CGHS covers ICU admission and mechanical ventilation at ₹8,000–20,000/day depending on ward entitlement and clinical requirement. Emergency ICU admission at Gini is cashless; Gini's 30-bed ICU is staffed 24/7 by a dedicated intensivist team.
Yes. CGHS covers registered dependent family members — spouse, children (up to specified age), and dependent parents — as listed on your CGHS card. The admission process is the same as for the primary card holder. Check your card for the list of registered dependents.
